Distracted Discussion to Exploring Eternity
As you may know, over the past seven years we have been redeveloping our CRU Lake Mac campsite. Stage 1 was completed in 2020, enabling nearly 13,000 additional young people to hear the good news of Jesus at CRU Lake Mac.
Completion of this redevelopment isn’t just about constructing new buildings – it’s about creating opportunities for more young people to hear the gospel and be transformed. Young people like Esther.*
Esther attended a Year 7 CRU Educational Camp earlier this year. She was part of a rather chaotic discussion group who enjoyed doing cartwheels and handstands while asking questions about the Bible. It certainly wasn’t the most focused group of the camp.
But on the final day, with everyone feeling tired after a big few days, something shifted in the discussion group. The group settled, and one student asked Claudia, their Summit Trainee leader, a simple question: “What does it mean to be a Christian?” Claudia opened her Bible, and immediately the entire group leaned in to read with her, flipping through the pages and asking thoughtful questions about faith. What had been a distracted group became a focused, eager circle of young people hungry to understand the gospel and explore eternity.
When the discussion group ended, Esther told Claudia that she now understood what it meant to be a Christian – and that she wanted that faith for herself. Claudia gave her a Bible to take home, and to her amazement, two of Esther’s friends asked for Bibles too, ready to keep exploring who Jesus is. It was incredible to see God work in the lives of these three year 7 campers.
We want more young people like Esther to have the opportunity to hear the gospel and respond to Jesus. The new 104-person lodge and meeting room at CRU Lake Mac will allow us to welcome an additional 7,100 young people each year so they can experience moments like this.
